Re: Bird of prey attack

Thanks for the detailed plan. Today I am going to make a scarecrow and stock up on square plastic bottles. Local opinion is that it was a vulture attack. The vultures are apparently starving at this time of year, as there is no carrion on the mountainside. Several farmers claim to have had attacks o...

Re: Bird of prey attack

Many thanks. I shall try a combination of these things - possibly all of them, as there's nothing too expensive there. I installed electric fencing last year following a fox attack. Highly efficient, but also very expensive. And useless, of course, against birds of prey!

Re: Posted eggs from uk

Hi, I have given up having eggs posted from the UK, and would advise against it. They are guaranteed to get some rough handling en route. The same breeder very kindly tried several times to post some to me, each time adding more layers of packaging, but they were all clear when I candled them a few ...

Re: Barnevelder hens wanted

Thanks Mojo. I will keep my eyes open - but Barnevelders are pretty rare around here. I spoke to a breeder at the agricultural fair in Tarbes who used to have some (he bought his in Holland), who told me that I won't find any locally. He could be wrong, of course. Meanwhile, I think I can arrange to...

Barnevelder hens wanted

Hi,

Does anyone have any Barnevelder hens for sale? Or hatching eggs? I am in the Hautes Pyrénées (50 mins south of Tarbes). Quite a long way from most people, I know, but it's worth a try...

This one (French) isn't bad. Its focus is primarily on pygmy goats, but a lot of the subjects are of general interest.
