Re: How to keep two cockerels

They do sit next to each other on either side of the fence. He will need to pass him but I'm putting in some plants so hopefully there will be protection to get by each other. There are two feeding stations at either end as well. I'll give it a bash, if they keep fighting I will separate them out. T...

Re: How to keep two cockerels

They live on the flower beds on three sides of a square garden. But they are behind a fence. I would of course let them out onto the grass if they were to have a scrap. I am not sure where they are in the pecking order. The older LF have no time for them and peck them if the annoy them. If I can get...

How to keep two cockerels

Hi all, We have two pekin boys that live with our three pekin girls and three LF girls. They don't get on. They are separated at the moment but they try to fight through the fence. They also make a lot of noise through the night from about 4am. I currently have them in cat boxes in the shed overnigh...

Reintroductions

Hi all, sorry was not quite sure where to post this one. I would like to put broody hen and her eight week old pekin chicks in with the two other hens. I have let Brenda out with broody as she is a gentle bird but broody just keeps attacking her. Not sure what to do. I know broody and belinda will f...

Garlic flowers

Hi all,

I grew garlic this year and a couple of plants grew flowers.

I left them on while drying and the flowers have opened and have what appears to be seeds in them, almost like tiny cloves.

Should these be planted?

Not sure quite what to do with them!

Thanks,

Re: First Death

Hadn't thought about the mites. Haven't had them so far so get a bit forgetful of the threat. I'll have a look in the coop tonight and I'll check the other little darlings for bugs. What do I do if I have an infestation regarding the chicks? The coops are close together so I would suspect if one had...

Re: First Death

My four have been together for three years and seemed quite a close knit group. I always thought I knew what the pecking order was until I introduced a new one and found out that the one at the bottom is some tough cookie and number two is a bit of a wuss. They seemed to have calmed down by lunch ti...

First Death

Poor Blanche passed away last night :( . Didn't seem to be anything suspicious. Her comb had been very droopy for a couple of weeks but she was eating and drinking fine all the way up to last night. I was surprised how upset the rest of the chickens were. I knew something was up as I could hear them...

Sex of pekin chicks

Broody hen has hatched five pekin chicks almost three weeks ago and was wondering about how to tell if they are boys or girls. There is a very noticeable difference between their wings and wondered if that's the tell. The two lavenders have long full wings and two of the silver partridge have short ...

When to move fruit

Does anyone know when the best time to move some very small red current bushes that only went in a month or two ago and some rasps that went in the end of last year.

I was going to have a fruit bed bit now realise how little space I have and want to move them to the dead space.

Thanks,

Re: Advice needed

Bit concerned with them getting in and out.

They are in a nesting box with a high side and the coop has a ramp. Should I put ramps in and out the box and a flatter longer ramp in?

Should I put straw down in the main coop so she can keep them there?

Re: Advice needed

All is fabulous. Chicks have hatched yesterday. Had a look in this morning and have seen two but she is not really keen to show them off. Quite sure there are more though. Think the ones we saw were one of each colour we put under. Any other advice for this stage would be really helpful. They...

Re: Chicken with lump in throat?

Think she has something crop related. She gurgled up a whole lot of liquid yesterday which was a bit stressful. Spoke to the vet in a blind panic and she is away to see him this morning. She seemed to perk up a little and get a bit of colour back so hopefully he will sort her out this morning. Thank...

Chicken with lump in throat?

Hi again, chicken problems do all seem to come at once. One of the girls is acting a bit odd. She wouldn't come out the nest box yesterday so my sister chucked her out and shut the door thinking she was going broody. She stood there all day through rain and shine looking miserable. When I went to se...
