Mixing LF and bantams

So I like the look of vorwerks, light sussex and wynadottes. However, I need to buy them as chooks rather than hatching eggs as they're my first ones. No Incubator or broodies! The suppliers I've found in Scotland seem not to have LF wynadottes, only bantams. Is it ok to mix them? Will them bantams ...

Re: Renovating a coop

Now there's an idea. I'll have a look for shed companies. The problem I have with cost-effectiveness is that I have to convince my boss and her boss to give me the cash. They're unlikely to do this to order something which they think is brand-new but unnecessary, whereas if I say it's for essential ...

Re: Renovating a coop

Erk, oh dear!
Really?
I don't know if our fundraiser made enough for a new shed. I guess I'll need to think of a secondary fundraiser.

What if I can't afford a new shed?

Renovating a coop

My work used to have chickens many moons ago. I just spent yesterday digging nettles out and throwing away all the rubbish that had blown in. It's as bad as I thought. There is a henhouse, with a rotting floor, no perches or nest boxes and no door. There is coop, which is basically a fence of galvan...

Re: New rescue hens not laying eggs – any ideas why?

The fact that it's cold out and the daylight hours are shorter means they are less likely to produce eggs now anyway. Don't worry about it, just be patient and when they are healthy, happy and probably a bit warmer, they should pick up laying again.

Re: Frozen chickens...

It's because all the molecules are in a more volatile state, ie buzzing around a lot. This means they are more suceptible to changes in temperature. It's like if we were all in a crowd and we were all warm, except for one SUPER cold thing which bounced off everyone, cooling down everything it touche...

Re: Frozen chickens...

Your kitties look LOVELY! I am trying to persuade OH to buy me a kitten for Christmas (But obviously for life as well - I've been after one for months) But unfortunately he is being sensible and saying a new baby and a new kitten are a bad idea. How can he look at the little ball of fluff and...

Re: Incredible Edible?

I think it depends on allotments. My Uncle isn't allowed to sell anything from his allotment, not allowed to profit from it. If I was running something like this I would maybe suggest donations be made? Just into a pot to buy more seeds so that the arrangement was sustainable. You know, So that peop...

Re: Incredible Edible?

Not the cause of what problem? Sorry, I wasn't really paying attention to the website, it was just to give people a backround :? I basically just liked the idea that they use spare ground to grow their own for the village, and that eventually it might produce some jobs and make people generally happ...

this was on the news the other day - http://www.incredible-edible-todmorden.co.uk/
And I just wondered how many of you were involved in a similar kind fo project, or wanted to be. I want to try and start one in Dundee, but have no idea how to start. Any thoughts?

Re: Residential Area

There's been a lot of debate on this, and I think that unfortunately the answer depends on the individual cockerel rather than breeds. which doesn't make your job any easier of course... Um, I think a lot of people said that brahmas were quiet? But again, sod's law that you would get the noisest one...
