Re: Fresh Air hens!

I have a few runs with coops in that i believe are totally fox proof but the chooks in them get locked in their coop every night - I would never forgive myself if they did get broken in to. Also, come winter you will want them to go away so better they learn now.

No faffing about downloading to the compute...

DOH!

I bought myself a trio of wheaten OEG bantams a while back and when my bantam Dotte went broody i put some of their eggs under her. 5 of the 6 hatched but to my surprise 2 were black  . They are now 6 weeks old and the 2 black ones are really weird - they are one of each sex, both have flat c...

Re: hot sun and chckens

I have been pinning double sheets over all runs that have no trees or bushes in, also going out and wetting the runs with a hosepipe to cool things down. Ice cubes in their drinkers help too.

Re: Mysterious Hen Deaths, Please help!

I have recently lost some chicks to rats, in fact i think it is one rat in particular and it chewed through thick meshing to get at them. We have bait boxes everywhere and live traps (my OH shoots any we catch) plus we have 3 cats and a JRT that all catch them BUT - there is one that evades all atte...

Re: Arghhh Bl00dy Red Mites!!!

If you want weapons of mass destruction then try Ficam W - it is what I resorted to last year after years of battling them. Did all houses twice last year - 6 to 8 weeks apart and this year there is still no sign of the red devils. I am just about to spray a few of the coops that haven't been used f...

LOL  - Been quite lucky so far (touching wood now) - my first lot 12 weeks ago produce 3 of each sex Pekins, 2 LF Modern Game pullets, 2 Friesian Fowl Pullets and 3 Friesian Fowl cockerels. My 8 week olds are 3 Pekin Pullets, 3 LF Modern Game cockerels and 5 LF Modern Game Pullets. Third hatch...
