I had a perma-broody hen once. Even putting ice packs in her nest box didn't stop her. She just sat on them to heat them up!! lol

No experience of pea gravel I'm afraid. I have my coops and 'safe' run area concrete (mainly to be fox proof but also for ease of cleaning) and I cover in straw and hay, then every other day I clean it all up, hose it down and cover again... only a light covering, enough for them to scratch about lo...

Having had hens decapitated by a fox and a duck's neck punctured by one (he later died) I would say it's a fox.... It's so upsetting when foxes find a way in. Such a shock :-(

6 foot sadly is nothing for a fox... plus they quite often dig under fences too.... have you any fox proofing in place?

Hi all, This was sent to me via email. I think fox but thought it best placed on here as we can then advise on protection too... Onwaking this morning I found one of my large duck half covered over and I uncovered it to find he had no head what predator would do this ?my home has a 6ft wooden fence ...
